Less Alcohol Abuse Among Iowa Youth

According to the 2014 Iowa Youth Survey (IYS) alcohol use and bullying is down from 2012. The survey encompassed 85% of public school districts providing a fairly accurate representation. Although it doesn’t provide a crystal clear look at these patterns it does provide a glimpse. The survey includes those in 6th, 8th, and 11th grade and has been gathered every two or three years since 1975. In the most recent survey, 14 percent of 11th-graders said they “drank beer in the past 30 days” compared to 19 percent in 2012.
