Cedar Rapids going to court to keep traffic cameras

The city of Cedar Rapids has decided to sue the Iowa Department of Transportation to keep their traffic cameras right where they are. The city’s legal staff and Police Chief convinced the mayor to make the decision after providing strong statistical data. The cameras in dispute are located on the S-curve on Interstate 380. The cameras have been in place since 2010, and last year the DOT required the cities in Iowa with traffic cameras to submit reports on crash-data. The DOT subsequently ordered Cedar Rapids to shut down two cameras and move two others. Cedar Rapids is not the only city being affected in Iowa with the DOT’s new rulings: Sioux City and Des Moines will also be making their cases in court.
